Model composition: Determination (Primary 4)
Ethan Quak, Chongfu Primary
The sky was a blanket of clouds, I was in the school field. I was having a running competition today. The first prize was a Nintendo switch. It was a game I had always longed for. I practiced day and night. The stadium reverberated with exuberant cheers from eager spectators. I proceeded to the starting line with a determined face. Little did I know something terrible was going to happen.
At first, everything was going smoothly. The starting pistol fired. I bolted as fast as a bullet. I was ahead of my competitors. The spectators were cheering for me. What happened next was shocking. Suddenly, I tripped on my shoelace and my body flung into the air. I let out a scream that cut through air like a knife through butter as I gravitated towards the ground. Before I knew it, I came crashing down on the hard floor. Blood started to ooze out of my knee. I had scraped my knee and there was a burning sensation. The spectators gasped. To make matters worse, all my competitors were overtaking me. Although my hopes of winning were dashed, I did not want to give up. With a determined face, I mustered up strength and started running again.
With my lungs burning and my knee stinging. I bolted as fast as lighting and to my surprise, I tore through the finish line ribbon first. I gasped in shock at the loud, booming applause and praise. I had won first place! I was oozing with pride as I made to the podium. A smile of accomplishment radiated on my face as I raised the trophy up high. Thanks to my determination, I had won! I vowed silently to myself to never give up
